Week 1 Homework

  1. Review Week 0 concepts by reading Levine & Miller’s Biology Foundations chp 1.2 “Science in Context”

  2. Study Week 1 concepts by reading HS: Everything You Need to Ace Biology chp 3 (nicknamed “Ace”). (The middle school version is chp 28 - these middle school versions don’t line up perfectly, but are an okay option for those who find the HS text too challenging.)

  3. Create 5x5 IS IT ALIVE? Bingo Board using these vocabulary from ACEchp 3 include a FREE SPACE: cells, stimuli, life functions, growth, reproduction, asexual reproduction, sexual reproduction, nutrients, autotrophs, heterotrophs, metabolism, digestion, cellular respiration, circulation, synthesis, excretion, regulation, homeostasis, adaption.  (We will add a few more words to this board next week)

  4. Watch Amoeba Sisters: Characteristics of Life BONUS - take notes for additional Excellent Learning Habits Tickets.

  5. Watch this 2 minute video “Diversity of Invertebrates” to pique your interest in different invertebrates. Decide which invertebrate you want to learn more about.

  6. List three invertebrates you find interesting. Go to your local librarywebsite (https://www.sdcl.org/newchapter/) and search to see what books are available on one or two of the invertebrates you are interested in. You may want to request that some books be sent to the branch closest to you.

BONUS home-fun: do any of these if you want if you want to extend your learning (also earns additional Excellent Learning Habits Tickets)
