September 3 is Class #1 OLD
Parents & Students,
It is critical that students have
1) shoes/boots that can get really dirty- by dirty I mean muddy and manure on them. Farm-only shoes. They can leave a pair of rain boots here if they want for mucking.
2) their own gardening gloves.

Welcome, get to know you, safety expectations.
Discovery Time: what do we want to learn about? We created lists to guide our study of farm science this semester.
Played games to help students learn each other’s names and get to know one another. Started to think about what we want our class culture to be like and how to achieve that. We’ll make a class contract next week.

Week 0 - Before class starts on September 3, 2025
Visit the all-in-one-supplies page Print that out and check off each item so you have those things ready to go on the first day. It may be hot the first weeks of class so in particular make sure you have a bandana to wet down and a water bottle.
Prepare your three-ring binder. Make sure the following are in it:
Lined paper
Two tabs (one for work/handouts, one for lined paper)
Print out the “Table of Contents” form. Put this in your work/handouts section.
Put your name on the binder
Think about which project team you want to be on for Sept/October: Piglet Prep or Fall Vegetable Garden. We’ll have new project teams in November and December.
Piglet Prep - shelter set up:moving feed and watering troughs and mangers, rain protection, raking enclosure, adding sand bedding, moving cinder blocks to prevent them from digging out. Feed storage area, human walk in spot, stump for climbing over, setting up manure removal tools.
Fall Vegetable Garden - Raised bed: clearing ground, adding wooden siding, moving earthworm compost to bed, loosening the soil, adjusting drip irrigation, choosing seeds, planting. Straw Bale Bed: moving bales, setting up interior soil
Projects for November and December may include: vermiculture (worm composting), succulent gardening, flower garden prep (roses and more),
